Francesco Totti and Social Media

Francesco Totti and Social Media

To begin with Totti has never been too involved in Social Media. At the age of 38 it is remarkable how he can still play and perform at a top level in a competitive league like the Italian is.

Totti has been the "flag" of A.S. Roma for too many years as he never left the team! Last night Roma was losing 2-0 to Lazio for the championship and things did not look good for the Giallorossi.

With Totti scoring one goal at the 48th minute they were back in the game. At the 64th minute Totti scored again an amazing goal  and chose a different way to celebrate.

Francesco Totti took a mobile phone and took a selfie with the fans behind him celebrating! Needless to say that the photo has gone viral since then and now everyone is talking not only about last night's great game but Totti's selfie in the derby!

I have referred many times to the relationship between Social Media and Sports in my articles and this is yet another chance to highlight how much they affect the game in all sorts of ways.

A special celebration with the fans by a superstar of Italian football not only strengthens bonds between players and fans but advertises the entire sport in a way more familiar to younger generations that are active on Social Media.

What happened last night is food for thought for all those who are in the Football industry, as well as other sports, to boost the awareness and popularity of their sport in more creative ways than ever before.
