Social Media Return on Investment is one of the most talked about subjects in the Social Media World. It is only natural that businesses and professionals in general want to know what is the return of their investment on Social Media since they spend money, time and effort.

ROI mostly depends  on what is your target. In order to see return you have to define your target first. So what is that you are looking for on Social Media? A few examples might be:

1) Increase Sales
2) Increase your fan base
3) Networking
4) Open a communication Channel with your clients
5) Create more leads
6) Reach more potential customers
7) Differentiate form competitors
8) Share valuable content and become a resource in your area of expertise

The above are a few examples and one or more may be valid at any time for any business.

Now let me tell you something that is of vital importance! You can achieve different results by using different Social Media platforms! This is something many ignore. The perception that all Social Media platforms can be used for the same target to reach the desirable outcome is false.

The number one thing you have to do after defining your target is to choose carefully which SM are suitable for your cause. This fact alone will save you time, money and increase your ROI at the end of the day!

If you have more than one targets then you have to choose your SM for each target and then measure your return on investment separately. You may find that target number 1 using SM XYZ has a much different ROI than target number 2 using SM ABC. This will allow you to shift your strategy soon enough to achieve desirable outcomes if something is not performing as you thought it will.

These are the first and basic steps one should begin with. ROI will of course depend on other factors after you begin but it will go completely wrong if you ignore the above.
