Social Media is all about connecting. Connecting with
friends, with colleagues, family members, even strangers! Some people connect
with just about everyone that comes across their way, some others only with
those few that matter the most. People connect for various reasons, personal
reasons, business reasons, pleasure, and the list goes on and on.
No matter what the reason though you connect or who
you choose to connect with, you should never but never forget your good
manners. After all, my motto is: “act inside Social Media as you act outside
Social Media”.
Let’s say you meet someone for the first time, the
polite thing to do is to introduce yourself. The same thing goes when you ask
someone you don’t know in person to connect with you in LinkedIn. You introduce
yourself, say what you do and perhaps why you choose to connect in the first
place.
The same thing applies in all situations, either you
are a business and you run a page in Facebook or a private account in any other
social media platform. Being polite shows the best of you and certainly adds
points to your profile. I often meet “professionals” across many industries
that hold key positions in their companies and take important decisions. They
usually tend to be frustrated with the current economic situation and that
their company is not doing so well. It’s the same exact people who would show
the worst of themselves when using Facebook, Twitter or other social media
platforms to show their bitterness and dissatisfaction.
Well here is a piece of advice! If you keep on
spending your energy into negative
thoughts and actions and make public of them
2 things will happen for sure:
1) Your connections and possible
customers will not want to do any business with you.
2)
Your business will keep on doing
worst and you will never know why
So think it over again! What is the attitude you show
when using social media? Are you being polite and enhance your image with
positive thoughts and actions or are you being route and destroy your chances
of success?
No matter what the case or your status if you want to
succeed in Social Media and in your business life being polite under all
circumstances is one thing you should certainly do. Be polite with your
friends, prospects, customers, connections, followers and everyone you meet or
come across. And don’t forget this applies both inside and outside social
media!
