Quite often we hear the word differentiation, and how important it is to make ourselves unique, to stand out from the crowd. To differentiate ourselves from others and the competition is a way to succeed in life and business.

We can of course understand the word differentiation but we might not understand the steps we have to take to achieve it. What is that we have to do to stand out from the crowd? Doing things differently is often an abstract term which gives us no direction.

Of course do not forget that many more people just like you are looking how to differentiate themselves also. So there is a lot of competition out there from others trying to succeed in your area of expertise!

So how to you find your way of differentiating yourself? Here are some steps to guide you in your effort to Stand Out!

1)    Deliver what you promise. A good way to Stand Out is for you to do what you promise to your clients and friends. It is very rear to find people that are true professionals and deliver on time.

2)    Provide Value. Whatever your expertise, people who provide value to others become special. Helping others profit or produce more for doing business with you is a key component to Stand Out.

3)    Be memorable. WOW everyone around you. Do something out of the ordinary and make others talk in a positive way about you. It shows that you truly care for others.

4)    Build your image. To stand out you need to find ways to communicate your message to others easily. Of course you need to be easy to reach too. Do you have a website or blog? Do you write a column where people interested in what you offer read?

5)    Be original. This is a tricky one. Being original, or being yourself, has one thing to always have in mind. Show the best of you at all times. Being original does not mean you do whatever you like. Good manners apply here. Originality also means to express your own ideas as an expert and not copy what others say. This is a good start to Stand Out.   

6)    Capitalize on your strong skills. All of us have developed skills over time that makes us special. Find those characteristics (you can ask your friends if you don’t know) that others like you for, and show them at all times.

There are all sorts of ways for someone to differentiate themselves. The above steps are a good way to start. To Stand Out is a way to make you not only succeed but to find those things in you that make you special!
