Social Media and Image Issues

Social Media and Image Issues

Being active on Social Media is more of a necessity nowadays for any business or professional.

Using the various platforms is a great way to find new customers, keep in touch with existing and old ones, and promote your brand inexpensively!

Promoting your brand, and thus your services or products, has a lot to do with the power of image. Images play an important role on how you will be perceived by your prospects and clients.

It may be your profile picture or your company's page cover photo. In either case the image you project has a direct impact on how you are being perceived and the kind of people you want to attract.

Photos that you use to show off your product, service, happy clients, references, a great moment for your business e.t.c. are all welcomed as long as they are in direct correlation with the people you want to attract and your values as a company.

If it is in your line of business to provoke by targeting a specific audience then that's fine as well.

Recently I came across a page on Facebook that sells wood fire briquettes and uses the image of a naked woman to promote their page. This is a very provocative way to attract attention but does in this case provide the necessary results?

From what I can say by reading the comments under the post, probably not! The product could have been promoted on a number of different selling points rather than using "sex" to sell. The correlation between the audience and the product seems very loose. If you also add the negative publicity then this could end up in a
big failure for them.

In either case, what needs to be addressed here, is the professionalism we need to show when approaching image issues in Social Media. It can make you or brake you!
